WXCI is a student-run college radio station. We are located at the Midtown Campus of Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut. WXCI began inn 1973 and has remained the second largest college radio station in Connecticut. We broadcast at 3000 watts and our transmitter is located at the Westside Campus of WCSU. You can hear a wide range of genres on WXCI -- we play everything from hiphop, metal, indie-rock, americana, classic rock, jazz, punk, reggae, techno, folk, dance, experimental, industrial, hardcore, alt-rock, avant-garde, power-pop, funk, electroclash, country, ambient, ska, grindcore, bluegrass, electronica, psychadelic, British invasion, elevator music, black metal, drum and bass, and more. We also feature weekly topical talk shows including the Sports Jam and WestConn Happenings. Also, on the weekends, we broadcast WCSU sports events, including football, basketball and hockey games.In August of 2004, WXCI implemented a state of the art DJ automation computer. The computer can randomly play any song from our library, while also promoting our specialty shows and playing important Public Service Announcements. The automation computer works continuously between regular DJ airshifts and shows, and is what makes it possible for us to broadcast 24 hours a day.
