Since it went on the air in 1947, WKLY Radio has become a unique broadcasting station which operates 15 hours daily all year long, featuringtop 40 country music and southern gospel music, as well as hits from the past. WKLY plays country music from 6:00am until 12 noon and then again from 2:35pm until 5:30pm. WKLY also features a country music "Classic" program at 8:05pm Monday through Saturday. WKLY is fastly growing as the Southern Gospel Music Leader throughout N.E. Georgia as well as Upstate South Carolina for the fact that this type of music is featured on WKLY from 12 noon until 2:30pm and then again from 5:35pm until 8:00pm Monday through Saturday and virtually all day on Sundays. WKLY also charts for the Singing News Magazine, which is the official trade publication for gospel music. WKLY has been featured and has had various write-ups by several trade magazines recognizing WKLY Radio as an outstanding station. WKLY Radio is "the only radio station" in Hartwell and continues to enjoy an exclusive listenership throughout our coverage area in part because we do so much local news coverage and local programming. WKLY features program extras such as local death announcements, household hint programs, exclusive farm coverage through the 4-H county extension agent and the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation. WKLY also features daily for sale/trade programs, such as "Focus On The Family" with Dr. James Dobson. Also there is the daily "Georgia Business Report" program which features the latest happenings in the Georgia economy and business. WKLY keeps the Saturday morning audience entertained with the #1 show in gospel music, "The Gospel Greats" program which features artist spotlights, music, and the latest happenings in southern gospel music. WKLY Radio features national news from the CNN News Network and we also feature hourly state-wide news via the Georgia News Network. WKLY's local news department is second to none with at least 7 local newscasts daily. We also break into regular programming as important news happens, thus providing complete coverage of news events in our section of N.E. Georgia and Up-State South Carolina. We also provide the latest up-to-date weather forecast at least twice an hour through the services of the Weather Channel Cable Network based in Atlanta. Over the past few years WKLY Radio has emerged as the definite "N.E. Georgia Sports Leader" featuring live play by play of Hart County football, basketball, and baseball. In 1998, WKLY Radio won the "BEST SPORTSCAST AWARD" as given by the Georgia Association of Broadcasters at the annual state-wide convention. The sports crew (Bryan Hicks, Mike Atkins, and Bruce Hicks) are just as popular in this area as the governor, or maybe even the president, just ask anyone....We also carry live coverage of University of Georgia Bulldog football which is a must to "DAWG FANS". We air weekly programs throughout the school year spotlighting Hart and Franklin County High school sports programs. Listeners also enjoy our daily WKLY Sports Rap programs in which WKLY personalities discuss what's hot and what's not in the world of sports, both nationally and locally. Friendly announcers with sparkling personalities help make AM 980 a favorite with the Lake Hartwell area audiences. Day breaks with Mike Atkins, our morning show host. A pleasing mix of music, news, sports, and weather gets listeners off to work in a relaxed mood. Mid-day features Christopher Milford, a friendly personality who is surely a favorite with many listeners. The afternoon drivetime finds several WKLY personalities behind the microphone providing the right combination of music, information, and humor to take the edge off driving home after a busy day at the work place. All in all, these characters make a splendid cast of on air personalities. WKLY Radio has been serving the people of Hart County and surrounding areas for more than 50 years and has always maintained a certain feeling of comfort between the station and the listeners.
